What’s new in Salesforce Lightning Experience?

Here’s a rundown of the latest Lightning Experience updates from the Salesforce Spring 19 release!

Lightning Web Components

Developers are going to love this one! These Lightning Web components are built using common web standards like modern JavaScript (ES6+), HTML, and CSS, making developers happier when working on the Lightning platform, as well as helping you achieve better app performance.

Salesforce Mobile Publisher

Prefer clicks over code? You can now easily build, design, and publish Lightning mobile apps without writing a single line of code.

Thanks to Salesforce Mobile Publisher you can design custom mobile apps with prebuilt components, then publish them to the iOS App Store or Google Play.

For example, if you have a Community you want to turn into a mobile app, you just have to fill out a big ol’ form and add the relevant images and icons. Once approved, the result will be a beautiful, custom branded app that has native functionality such as notifications all built into it. No code needed.

Lightning Flow Builder

This helps you automate your company’s business processes easier than ever. Point and click tools, a simplified user interface, new screen components, and the fact it’s easier to find your way around flows with clean lines and intuitive shapes means you get more powerful and highly customisable processes.

It’s also got the latest front-end tech for lightning-fast performance and a streamlined toolbox so it’s dead easy to find what you’re looking for. But best of all, if you have existing flows, you don’t have to do anything to migrate them over to Lightning Flow — this is now the default flow builder!

Lightning Experience Transition Assistant

Does what it says on the tin, really. This helps your move from Classic to Lightning with a step-by-step transition path. The three phases of the transition path include:

  • Discover: This phase includes a wizard that helps you move through all the steps, each containing all the content and info you’ll need to transition. You can watch videos right from the transition assistant, gain essential knowledge easier than ever, and preview Lightning with the click of a button so you can demo the Lightning experience for your stakeholders — without any risk.
  • Roll-out: This phase helps you develop your roll-out plan, turn on key Lightning Experience features, and adjust existing customisation. Then it’ll help you prepare your users for the upcoming changes and go live. When you’re ready to transition to lightning, the assistant will show you a switch that you can click on.
  • Optimise: This phase helps you drive user adoption of Lightning Experience and build on the roll-out plan with more users, new user cases, and continuous improvement.

This step-by-step guidance is a huge help to those with smaller teams and minimal risk who want to transition smoothly right away. For more complex transitions with larger teams that may take longer (or if you’re still feeling out of your depth) a partner like us can really help.

Happy new year from the Salesforce team! Now we’re back into the swing of things (albeit a few lbs heavier!) you’d think that all the festivities are over… BUT FEAR NOT!
